Redmond Habitat for Humanity is a locally run affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing ministry. Our mission is to eliminate poverty housing. We achieve our mission in partnership through: Faith - our foundation, Volunteers - our walls, Donors - our roof, and Families - our heart. We work in partnership with people in need to build and renovate decent, affordable housing. The houses are then sold to those in need at no profit and with no interest charges.

According to Central Oregon Housing Authority over 1,000 people are waiting for low rental housing. These residents earn a salary at 50% or less than the median income. Rental expense in Redmond eats up 1/3 or more of the gross income of the economically disadvantaged.

Our goal is to help families build their own homes. The homes are modest, well built and energy efficient. We are able to keep costs low because of Redmond Habitat supporters who donate land, time, labor, materials and money.

Volunteers provide most of the labor, and individual and corporate donors provide money and materials to build Redmond Habitat homes. Partner families themselves invest hundreds of hours of labor, "sweat equity", into building their homes and the homes of others. Their mortgage payments go into a revolving fund for Redmond Habitat for Humanity that is used to build more homes.

                            ___________

The tithe is a cornerstone of the Redmond Habitat/Affiliate Covenant, which urges each affiliate to give at least 10 percent of its income to help build homes in other parts of the world, regardless of the affiliate’s location, resources or age. It’s simple, it’s practical and it works. It is a humble way to recognize that all gifts are from God and that all belongs to Him. Tithing allows us to share with others the blessings God has so graciously bestowed upon us. It reinforces Habitat’s biblical context. And when affiliates commit to the tithe, the results are extraordinary. Through our 10 percent tithing to Habitat for Humanity International the Redmond Habitat for Humanity affiliate is responsible for the building of 8 houses for needy families in Kenya, Africa. Our tithe is now being sent to Eastern Europe to help rebuild war-torn cities. Tithing is sound Christian principle, and it is simply a means of sharing what blessings have graced our lives. Redmond Habitat for Humanity is committed to participate in this humbling act of faith.

Meetings are held each month at the Redmond Habitat for Humanity office.  Call 548-1406 for information.
